Message From VC’s Desk

Dear Fellow Alumni and Well-Wishers,
On behalf of your Alma Mater, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the University of Mumbai Alumni Association (UMAA). Your Alma Mater, the University of Mumbai, is one of the oldest and prime Universities in India. It is one of the first three Universities set up in our country in 1857. Since then it has gradually grown to the present size of 54 University Departments, 820 affiliated colleges, 12 specialized centres, 2 main campuses, 2 sub-campuses, 2 model colleges, and one School of Engineering at Kalyan. It has a long jurisdiction of about 600km, covering districts of Thane, Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. It has a glorious past and has thousands of illustrious alumni who have contributed immensely at national and international level. We are proud of our alumni.

General Secretary’s Message

Dear Fellow Alumni,
The University of Mumbai has a glorious history, from the fact that it is over 150 years old (it was established in 1857), to the fact that we are one of the world’s largest Universities, with over 8 lakh students currently enrolled. Apart from its own dignified past, it is the illustrious roll call of its alumni which sets us apart – beginning with Mahatma Gandhi and Babasaheb Ambedkar to Mukesh Ambani and Sunil Gavaskar.
Alumni form crucial pillars for all the great Universities across the world – they provide support, guidance, direction and valuable insights to their alma mater. In the case of Mumbai University, this has been lacking. As a Senate member, I have realised how much the University sorely misses the strength of an active Alumni Association, especially since so many stalwarts have passed through its gates. With this in mind, we have initiated the formation of the University of Mumbai Alumni Association (UMAA), and I invite all of you to become proud, active members of the UMAA.
With warm regards,

Milind Satam
General Secretary, UMAA
